REGISTRATION

What is included in my registration?

Each participant receives the following:

  • Commemorative Event T-Shirt: A cotton version of the 2019 Fools Day 5k race shirt
  • Pair of Groucho Glasses: A traditional pair of Groucho novelty glasses to wear during the race and keep as a fun souvenir.
  • Finisher Medal: A one-of-a-kind finisher medal to add to your collection!
  • Entry in the Flickin’ Chicken Contest: Toss a traditional rubber chicken in the Flickin’ Chicken contest for a chance to win exciting prizes.
  • Race Bib and Timing Chip: Professional race timing on a sanctioned 5k course with posted results.
  • On Course and Pre/Post Race Refreshments: Three water stations along the route with unlimited access to pre and post-race refreshments.
  • Goody Bag: No event is complete without one! You’ll find surprise goodies including exclusive offers at local businesses and fun freebies from our sponsors.

I registered but can no longer participate, can I receive a refund?

Both your registration fee and fundraising provide the crucial fuel needed to fund programs at our St. Lucie UP Center. While we are not able to issue refunds, please reach out to us to transfer your registration to a friend or family member who can participate in your place.

TEAMS

How do teams work?

Teams of 10 or more receive a special discount registration. Upon registering, select the team registration type. You’ll also have an opportunity to choose or create your team name during the registration process. If your team fails to reach the required minimum of 10 team members, you will be asked to make up the difference in registration cost before picking up your packet.

Can anybody register as a team?

Yes! Other than having at least 10 participants, there is no special criterion to become a team. Your team could be the name of the company the teammates work for, a family name, or a totally unique name you create!

How can my team get a tent at the event?

Any team raising $1,000 or more will have their efforts rewarded with their own 10’x10’ tent at the race. It’s a great place to gather with your teammates before and after, and celebrate a job well done!

RACE INFORMATION

Is the course a sanctioned 5k route?

Yes, the route is sanctioned and has been officially measured at 3.1 miles using the shortest distance traveled.

Is the race timed?

Yes, the race is professionally timed by Run Vero. You will be issued a chip to track your individual time.

Tell me about the course!

The race starts and finishes in South Causeway Park, a peaceful beach-side park along the Indian River Lagoon. The first mile takes you across the picturesque South Causeway (A1A) Bridge, then a quick loop passing the A.E. Backus Museum and Manatee Observation Center for Mile 2 before returning over the bridge and finishing near the St. Lucie Aquarium. It is a smooth and scenic route, sure to be filled with sights of pelicans, kayakers, fisherman and wide stretches of water. Please click here to see the course map.

Where and When is packet pick-up?

Early packet pick-up is encouraged, and available on Thursday, March 28 from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Friday, March 29 from 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. at our St. Lucie UP Center, located at 2520 Orange Avenue, Fort Pierce, FL 34947. Your race packet includes your race t-shirt(s), pair of Groucho glasses, runner goody bag and race bib/timing chip.

To make things easier, you may also sign for and pick up packets on behalf of your friends or teammates. If you need to pick up your packet on race day, please plan to arrive before 7:30 a.m.

Are walkers welcome?

Of course! We are excited to have athletes and families of all skill levels participate. For everyone’s safety, we ask that you please plan to start at the back of the group and leave room for others to pass. Look for the “Walkers Line Up Here” sign at the start line.

Are strollers and wheelchairs allowed?

Absolutely! For everyone’s safety, we ask that you please plan to start at the back of the group and leave room for others to pass.

Do I really have to wear the Groucho glasses?

While we will not disqualify you for not wearing them, the glasses are an essential party of the fun and unique character of the event, allowing you to Be a Blessing in Disguise! We hope you will get in the spirit and wear your glasses with pride.

Can I bring my furry friend?

We love dogs, and would love to see them rocking a pair of Groucho glasses on race day! Dogs are welcome to participate as long as they are on a leash and start at the back of the lineup. Please be sure to pick-up after them during the race and pre/post-race activities.

Will you have a bag check?

Yes, there will be a supervised area where you may check a small bag with your belongings. You will receive a claim check that you’ll need to present in order to reclaim your things at the end of the race. Please only bring the essentials and leave all valuables at home.

What about bad weather?

Florida weather can be unpredictable, but the show must go on! The race will take place rain or shine.

What is the purpose of this race?

The goal of the Fools Day 5k is to raise funds and awareness for United Against Poverty of St. Lucie County, whose mission is to inspire and empower people living in poverty to lift themselves and their families to economic self-sufficiency.

How does this event raise money?

100% of the funds raised from registrations, participant fundraising and sponsorships will all directly benefit the mission of United Against Poverty of St. Lucie County. Here’s your chance to join friends and neighbors in making a meaningful impact in our community while taking part in an unforgettable 5k!

FUNDRAISING

How does fundraising work?

As part of your registration via our partner site FirstGiving, you will create a personal fundraising page with your own custom URL web link that you can share with family and friends to drum up donations. Your supporters can easily donate directly to your secure page using a credit or debit card, and even leave you a comment or words of encouragement!

How do I enter an offline donation (cash or check) on my fundraising page?

When collecting offline donations, please be sure to record the donor’s name and address. To record a cash or check donation, log-in to your FirstGiving page, click on your Fools Day 5k fundraising page and enter your donor’s contact information and gift amount. Once completed, their donation will be reflected in your fundraising total on your page’s thermometer. All offline donations are to be turned-in at registration the week of the event.

AWARDS AND PRIZES

Top participants will be recognized in the following special categories:

  • Top individual fundraisers
  • Top team fundraisers
  • Top overall male finishers
  • Top overall female finishers
  • Top overall Blessing in Disguise finishers (who wear the glasses!)
  • Top four-legged finishers

What about the fundraising prizes?

As a way for us to say thank you for going above and beyond, we will be rewarding the efforts of those who reach the following fundraising benchmarks:

  • For every $50 a participant raises, they will receive an additional rubber chicken to throw in the Flickin’ Chicken contest.
  • Participants raising at least $200 will receive everything included with basic registration, a Flickin’ Chicken entry for every $50 raised and a black “Blessing in Disguise” performance race shirt.
  • One-of-a-kind chattering teeth trophies will be awarded to the top three individual and top three team fundraisers.

Fundraising prizes will be distributed with race packets; trophies will be presented at the Awards Ceremony.
